Sew-Along - The Ulysses Coat - 10th & 11th March 2021
While we are all at home I thought it would be nice to sew along together.
I also thought it might be a chance to try something a bit more challenging.
The Ulysses Coat mixes trench coat styling with a modern look. This relaxed, straight-cut jacket features draped elements such as a shawl collar and a clean-lined, curved back "rain guard" overlay. Notched-out holes along the sides seam of the overlay allow the jacket's belt to exit through from the back to the front.
Other features include shoulder epaulettes, clean-lined, angled patch pockets with an upper flap, a center-back vent, and a gently angled hemline at the front. The body of the coat is unlined, making this a perfect, cool style for the warmer months.
The seams are finished with binding, which creates a beautiful interior finish to the garment.
The cost of the Sew Along includes the Victory Pattern for the Ulysses Coat.
You will need to purchase fabric, interfacing and thread
This sew-along will take place on Zoom, I will send out the link to join the Sew-Along the day before.
Let's have fun and make a coat :)
NB - this is a challenging project, we may not finish it in the 2 days but you will learn everything you need to do to finish your coat.
Materials Needed: You will need to purchase 4.2m of 150cm wide woven fabric, 1.5m of 150cm wide lining fabric, 1.3m of lightweight woven interfacing, 2 x 2cm buttons, 1 5cm slider buckle or 2 x 5cm D Rings and matching thread
NOTE: The seams are finished with Hong Kong binding, the pattern uses binding made from the lining fabric - if you prefer to use ready-made binding you will need 8-10 meters of 25mm wide binding.
Before the Sew-Along: there are a few things you can prepare before the day of the Sew-Along. Gather your tools together, wind a bobbin and thread your machine, you could also thread up your overlocker if you have one. Pre-wash or steam your fabric. Roughly cut out your pattern pieces to separate them.
