The Dressmaker's Portfolio Level 3 - Introduction to Pattern Cutting Starts 19th April 2023

The Dressmaker’s Portfolio Level 3 is a two-month introduction to pattern cutting & design where students will learn the skills needed to start to design and create a handmade wardrobe.

Based on the Moulage technique which I learned from Kenneth D King in New York, you will be able to start to design your own clothes or use what you learn to alter commercial patterns, you do not have to complete previous levels to take this course but you will need a good understanding of dressmaking and construction

One project will be set to be completed during the 2 months – either 1 garment designed from scratch or 2 co-ordinating garments created using pattern-cutting skills to alter/add to the design of a commercial pattern.  Garments can be started during the course and finished by the exhibition date.

-       9 days of pattern cutting/design tuition

-      Basic Kit of Pattern Cutting Tools & Stationery

-      A Copy of Kenneth D King's pdf book The Moulage

-      10% off extra workshops booked and attended during the two months

-      A key for the Sewing Room – DM Portfolio students are able to use the Sewing Room when there are no workshops taking place

-      Storage Cupboard in the Sewing Room

-      Final Exhibition - join students from The Dressmaker's Portfolio Levels 1 & 2 to show your work.

Pattern cutting/design workshops will be on a Wednesday, 10–3 pm, each week. there will also be two Thursdays at the beginning of the course.

During the day we will discuss your projects, you will learn pattern cutting and design techniques and make samples

We will also look at using social media, share ideas of who to follow and I will be introducing you to anything new and inspiring that I come across – whether it’s patterns, fabrics, designers or tools.

This is also a time for you to ask for help with your projects
