The Maker's Atelier Sewing Retreat will start with a One-Day Masterclass in different fabric constructions Seasonal trends and which fabrics to choose, covering classic knit and woven constructions as well as leathers and modern technical fabrics.

You will have swatches to work on and will choose a Maker’s Atelier pattern to make, and there will be one-to-one discussions with Frances Tobin and Claire Tyler, sewing expert and teacher, to help you decide on fabric choice.

At the end of the day there will be a chance to go on a fabric shopping trip, then over the next two days you will sew your pattern, learning techniques and tricks for working with fabrics to achieve professional finishes.

Our aim is to give you the skills and confidence to make informed fabric choices, enabling you to produce more beautiful garments in your future sewing projects.

Retreat Timetable

Day 1 - 28th April

9.30am - Welcome

10.00am - Seasonal trends and which fabrics to choose - Frances

11.00am - Fabric files handed out, time to inspect the sample rail and choose your pattern.

1.00pm - Lunch

1.45-3.30pm - Practical Workshop, choosing the correct machine feet for your fabric - Claire

4.00pm - Fabric Shopping with Claire at Ditto. Shopping for Leather with Frances

7.00pm - Dinner (optional)

Day 2 - 29th April

9.00-1pm - Begin Sewing Projects

1pm - Lunch

1.45-5.30pm - Sewing

7pm - Dinner (Optional)

Day 3 - 30th April

9.00am - Masterclass - Claire

10-1pm - Sewing

1pm - Lunch

1.45-4pm - Sewing

4.00pm - Tea and goody bags

What's included?

3 days expert tuition and guidance from Frances and Claire

Refreshments and a buffet lunch each day with afternoon tea on Friday before you head home.

What's not included?

Your accommodation , You can choose to stay at Jury's Inn Hotel and enjoy breakfast and use of the Spa (there will be a discount on room rates booked before 4th April) 

Your travel expenses (there will be discounted parking available at the hotel)

The cost of dinner, eating at the Hotel or offsite is flexible.

Sewing machines - if traveling from abroad please email, sewing machines will be available to hire

The materials for your sewing project. 

Bring along your own Sewing Box with tools etc.

Overlockers, irons and ironing boards will be available to use,  there will also be interfacings and haberdashery available to purchase.
