Bag Making with Sue Cotten - 17th March 2022
Choose one of 3 great bags or the Utility Apron to make with the lovely Sue Cotten and learn lots of techniques in this practical workshop
NOODLE-HEAD - RANGE BACKPACK
A useful and fun backpack to make. It is great for any outing where you need to be hands-free. The fold-over top and closure keeps things secure and is big enough to hold a regular laptop. The front zippered pocket keeps essentials within easy reach. Adjustable straps make if wearable in any season. Sue made her bag from a Linton off-cuts and recycled leather jeans with a satin lining.
DANA – KALANI BACK PACK
The Kalani Backpack is a stylish backpack with practical storage. This zipped closure on the bag will carry all sorts of things and makes it the perfect companion for outings as it is not too big, yet not too small, big enough for an iPad. Sue made her bag from a D&G technical fabric panel and cotton lining.
PROJECT BAG
A large project bag with internal pockets to bring along to sewing classes.
The bag is lined with two straps. You will also learn how to insert bag hardware. This project bag has proved to be very popular.
UTILITY APRON
The Utility Apron is a working apron for your sewing room, garden, or anywhere else you need a hand!
It is a lined apron that buckles around the waist or hips and holds all your bits and pieces.
A hidden welt pocket is perfect for keeping things safe and two tabs offer places for scissors or keys!
The lining provides an opportunity to have fun with fabric choice and the hardware gives it a modern look. The Utility Apron is a great scrap-buster, a perfect gift, and an excellent project for adventurous beginner sewists!
PLEASE NOTE
As bag making involves many pieces of the pattern to cut out, Sue will arrange for the patterns to be sent out a few weeks before the workshop so you can cut out in advance of the day and not waste valuable sewing time. If you don’t have the bag hardware Sue will have some available to purchase on the day.
What You Need To Bring: The Sewing Room is fully equipped with Janome Sewing Machines and Overlockers as well as all the tools you need to complete your project. You are very welcome to bring your own machine and sewing box if you wish.
Materials Needed: You will need medium weight fabrics, eg. soft furnishing, wool type or pliable pleather for the outer bag and fabric for the lining. We will also use wadding, interfacings and bag hardware which you can bring along or it will be available to purchase in the workshop. Pattern included in the workshop costs. Sue will email you closer to the date to discuss the fabrics.
