Couture sewing takes time and patience.  Much of the construction is done by hand often because the fabrics are tricky and there could be complicated design details.

On this skirt workshop you can choose the style skirt you would like to make starting with a straight skirt pattern which I will provide. Stabilise your chosen fabric with silk organza or quilt the lining to the fabric.  Adust the position of darts & seams or learn to change a straight skirt into an A line or a mock wrap.

Learn how to insert a zip by hand and create beautiful hanging loops like those found on designer garments.

The pattern is included in the workshop price. After altering the pattern for fit and deisign detail you will start construction.  As mentioned, couture sewing takes time so it is unlikely you will finish your skirt in the workshop, but you will leave knowing how to complete your garment at home.

What You Need To Bring: The Sewing Room is fully equipped with Janome Sewing Machines and Overlockers as well as all the tools you need to complete your project.  You are very welcome to bring your own machine and sewing box if you wish.

Materials Needed: In Couture Sewing the fabric amounts are worked out a little differently to allow for the fabric being more difficult to work with.

To decide how much you need, measure the finished length you would like your skirt to be and add 10cm (4"), if your fabric is 150cm (60") you will need this amount plus 10cm (4") for the waistband.

You will need the same amount of lining plus a 20cm (8") zip and matching threads.  You will also need 1m of calico for your toile

Ideal fabrics for this workshop would be wool crepe or Linton Tweed and Silk Crepe de Chine - if you would like any advice on fabrics please do get in touch
