The Dressmaker's Portfolio - Introduction to Pattern Cutting Starts 25th June 2025

The Dressmaker’s Portfolio - introduction to pattern cutting & design runs over 8 days in June & July.  Students will learn the skills needed to start to design and create a handmade wardrobe. 

Based on the Moulage technique, you will be able to start to design your own clothes or use what you learn to alter commercial patterns.

You will need a good understanding of dressmaking and construction to get the most from this course.

We will start by creating a moulage then adding ease to make a blouse or dress with a sleeve, there will be follow-up workshops for more techniques like jackets & coats and more sleeve designs.

INCLUDED

-       8 days of pattern cutting/design tuition

-      Basic Kit of Pattern Cutting Notes, Tools & Stationery

-      Storage Cupboard in the Sewing Room

Pattern cutting/design workshops will be on a Wednesday & Thursday 10–3 pm, each week. 

On the workshop days you will learn pattern-cutting and design techniques and make samples

This is also a time for you to ask for help with projects you are planning.

What You Need To Bring: The Sewing Room is fully equipped with Janome Sewing Machines and Overlockers as well as all the tools you need to complete your project.  You are very welcome to bring your own machine and sewing box if you wish.

Materials Needed: You will need pattern paper, tracing paper & at least 3m of calico
